The Sacred Place
Heart and Soul of British Music, and Eighth Wonder of the World.

Magical. Mystical, Exciting and Serene, that's got to be my personal epitome of Somerset.
Both my wife Georgina and myself, always feel so calm and relaxed when I'm there, whatever is going on in my life. My step daughter Jackie, and her husband Mickey, have a small holding at Lamyatt, a little village just up the valley from Pilton Park, home of the
Glastonbury Festival. But it's not just that weekend in June, the
magic is always there, and even when the festival is in full swing, a sort of
ironic tranquility remains intact, as we sit out in the garden at
Lamyatt, and take in the sound from the east facing Pyramid stage, as it wafts
down the valley towards us. Unlike some of you reading this, I have only
been to the festival once. That was on the Sunday of 2000, when David Bowie, and
Basement Jaxx were the head liners. My Glastonbury pilgrimages, tend to be c/o
BBC3/2, when I try to record everything. I took my DVD recorder to Lamyatt
on the Friday of 2003, and whist recording BBC3, one of many Glastonbury
magic moments, indelibly marked itself on my memory. David Grey was
performing on the Pyramid stage as I watched with amazement a fantastic
double sunset, the sun setting on the TV screen simultaneously with the life sun
set through the lounge window, in perfect unison, pure magic. The festival
magic is not all down to the place, the people are very special too. It's incredible
that you can get a mass of people, almost equaling the population of Bristol,
all of which appear to have such a broadminded attitude and feeling for music.
On the Sunday I was there I remember seeing a group of youngsters really into
Willie Nelson, later to be seen freaking out to Basement Jaxx. I wish all the
people that I had at my gigs were as tolerant and broadminded
musically. There again if your not a convert and want to know more,
just click on the pyramid.
Recently I invested in a new camera, so one August Sunday morning I decided to set off with my trusty little jacqueline russell, Tess to take a few shoots of the most famous cow shed in the world, as it settles back to relax after giving it's all a few weeks before. I've heard so many Glastonbury fans say " I wonder what it's all like when the festival isn't on, so I just couldn't keep them for myself. So hears a few I would like to share. I give you The Eighth Wonder of The World, The Pyramid Stage.
